Dr. John Grady graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He received a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago (now the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine) and followed with a residency in foot and ankle surgery at Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital.
Dr. Grady is the former director of the podiatric residency program at Jesse Brown VA in Chicago and the current director of the prestigious podiatric surgical residency program at Advocate Christ Medical Center and Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL. He is also on the surgical staff of Advocate Christ Medical Center and Advocate Children’s Hospital, The University of Chicago (Ingalls) and Little Company of Mary Hospital. In addition, Dr. Grady is the founder of Foot & Ankle Associates and the Illinois Center for Foot & Ankle Surgery.\ He also serves as Chair, Podiatric Section of the Department of Orthopedics at Advocate Christ Medical Center and Advocate Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Grady is a professor of biomechanics and surgery at Rosalind Franklin University, Adjunct Track. He also serves as adjunct clinical faculty at the California, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Iowa and New York Colleges of Podiatric Medicine and Barry University. He is the former director of the sports medicine department at Scholl College.
A nationally renowned foot and ankle surgeon, Dr. Grady has developed many types of reconstructive surgeries, such as complex diabetic Charcot reconstruction. He has advanced training in peripheral nerve decompression and repair. Dedicated to conducting research on the care of diabetic ulcerations, Dr. Grady has become one of only a small number of physicians in Illinois who is board certified in wound care.
He was recognized by the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine as the Alumnus of the Year in 2000 and was the recipient of the Milo Turnbo Award for Outstanding Service to the Podiatric Profession in 1985. He also received the esteemed Scholl Medallion in recognition of his professional contributions to the field of podiatry. In 2002, he had the honor of giving the commencement address at Scholl College. Currently, Dr. Grady is the scientific chairman of the Midwest Podiatry Conference, which is the largest podiatric conference in the nation, and is a past president of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association. He is the recipient of the American Podiatric Award of Excellence for 2010, which is awarded to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding national accomplishments in scientific, professional, or civic endeavors. Dr. Grady was made an honorary member of the Gesellschaft für Fuß- und Sprunggelenkchirurgie (The German Society of Foot and Ankle Surgery) in December, 2014 (the only podiatrist and only American surgeon at that time to have received this award).
As an expert in his field, Dr. Grady has presented numerous lectures at local, state, national, and international symposia. He has taught advanced surgical techniques of the foot and ankle to orthopedic surgeons all over North America, including such institutions as Harvard Medical School, as well as trauma and orthopedic surgeons in Europe. Dr. Grady was one of the first instructors of advanced foot and ankle arthroscopy in the Midwest. He has also published numerous articles in medical journals and has served as an editorial consultant for two major medical publishing companies. He is also a contributing editor to the Journal of American Podiatric Medical Association.
Dr. Grady is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, the American Board of Podiatric Medicine, and the American Academy of Wound Management. He is a fellow of the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons. Dr. Grady is also a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association and the Chicago Catholic Physicians Guild.
Dr. Grady and his wife, Kathleen, have lived in the southwest suburbs of Chicago for over 30 years, and have four children. Dr. Grady serves the community in various functions, including being on the Board of Directors of Rosalind Franklin University, the Board of Directors of Little Company of Mary Hospital’s Foundation and the Director of the Foot and Ankle Institute for Research.
